We don't have a total yet, but the volume of bottles was impressive. A special thanks to Mrs. Gallati, Mr. Pershing, and Sam Hill for helping out as additional drivers. It was a long day, but a great show of commitment and support.  Bravo! Mrs. Northway

Tap Classes at Greely in August!!!!!!
There will be two tap classes offered at the high school this summer. They will be (free, thank the boosters) large group classes for all levels with our new choreographer Lynne Schabhetl.
The two dates are Wednesday August 20th and Thursday August 21st from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The classes will be held in the main cafeteria and as all of you know there is no air-conditioning so dress appropriately and bring plenty of water. You will need tap shoes to make the most of the lessons. I have some drama loaners: primarily women's shoes, but I do have 3-4 pairs of men's shoes...  (The shoes will be available on a first come first serve basis, but don't arrive before 6:15, because I won't be there yet.) Be sure to bring socks especially if you are borrowing shoes that may not fit perfectly. You don't want blisters.
Lynne will teach some combinations that will be part of the dance audition. The audition expectations will also be reviewed Sept 4th at the dance practice prior to auditions.
If you aren't available or don't want to tap, don't worry. There are probably only 18-22 characters that will end up tapping in the show. A good number of the dance breaks are not tap. Email me if you have questions, Mrs. Northway

FAQ
What should I do to prepare for auditions this summer?
Read the plot summary (handout)
Watch the youtube video of the most recent Broadway revival with Sutton Foster as Reno Sweeney
Any Acting, Singing, and/or Dance classes or performance opportunities are good preparation.  (see Tap Classes below)
Go to see a musical for pure enjoyment and to help you think about the energy, projection, and  characterization you will want to develop.  (Which characters captivated you? Why?)
Sing, dance, and/or act with your friends....home movies???
Listen to the music online or buy the Broadway CD
REMEMBER: Not all characters dance or deliver lines in a musical, but almost everyone sings. In Anything Goes, there are only a very few characters that don’t sing ... at least in the big production numbers!

TAP CLASSES:
I have arranged for some week-long, 1 hour, tap classes for Greely students at Casco Bay Movers (Portland).  The cost will be $50 for 5 one-hour classes the week of July 7th (beginners) and/or the week of July 14 (intermediate).  If you are interested, sign up on the DANCE SHEET after the meeting.
You will need to register through Casco Bay Movers by July 1st to get the $50 rate. After July 1st you can register or show up at the first class, but you will pay $60.

Sometimes we are able to offer tap classes at the high school a few nights per week (Tuesdays & Thursdays)  in August  (12/15 and 19/21), but I haven’t been able to confirm that opportunity.
Check the Anything Goes Facebook page or contact me at the end of June.

Spoon River Anthology March 20-22, 2014

Mark your calendars for Greely Drama's spring production of Spoon River Anthology. This play with music is based on the classic cycle of poems written by Edgar Lee Masters at the turn of the twentieth century and tells "behind the scenes" stories of more than seventy characters. Based in a small town in middle America, these individuals recall their lives, loves, and struggles.  Each of the twenty-two students in the ensemble is challenged to create multiple, distinct characters of many ages and backgrounds. Traditional songs from the era are woven into the play.  The vocalists are accompanied by two high school musicians on violin and guitar. An enthusiastic production crew of more than forty additional students is working on the set, lighting, costumes, projections, makeup, program, and publicity.

Performances are Thursday and Friday March 20 and 21, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday March 22 as a dinner theatre performance. Reservations are required and must be prepaid for dinner theatre as this show sells out quickly. Seating for dinner is at 6:00 p.m.
